Anti-Aircraft Missile Site FRA-134

Near Steffenshagen, in the far north of Brandenburg, the remains of the anti-aircraft missile division 134 can be found. This division was initially equipped with the S-75 Dwina missile, then from the early 1970s with the S 75 Wolchow air defense missile and belonged to the AA missile regiment 13. The structure of the object is basically similar to all other S-75 divisions of the army and air defense of the NVA (National People's Army of the GDR). It is divided into the accomodation area, the technical area and the firing position about 1 km away.

Anti-Aricraft Division of the East German Army

A special feature here is the firing position: While at other sites a completely new firing position was built in the course of modernization and the old firing position was left in place, the older position in Steffenshagen appears to have been demolished and the new position built on its site.

The command post type construction was built for anti-aircraft missile sections, as can also be found in other, more recent, S-75 and S-125 positions:

The core of the command post consists of six parallel garages, built using the familiar concrete blocks. At the rear of the garages is a transverse corridor, which is adjoined by a longitudinal corridor for personnel access, so that the two corridors form an L-shape. Various rooms such as the kitchen with dining room, storage room, sanitary facilities and technical rooms branch off from these two corridors. The building included a small UPS system and a central ventilation system. A special feature of the type project in Steffenshagen was the extended longitudinal corridor for personnel access, from which 2 crew bunkers of type FB-3 branch off.

In 2020, the accommodation zone is in desolate condition, the technical area has largely been demolished, only the large MB 1 storage bunker (see here for more information) remains. The firing position, on the other hand, presents itself as a “jungle” and is so densely overgrown that you have to be careful where you step. The command post has been completely neglected and the firing positions are barely recognizable due to the dense vegetation.
