The reason that this abandoned mansion in Eastern Germany does not have the looks commonly associated with a mansion or castle is that the original castle was burned down to its foundations after the Soviet troops arrived towards the end of World war II.
In the 1950s, a new building was constructed on the foundations of the original castle and became the administration of a large "VEG" ("Volkseigenes Gut", an East German socialist agricultural estate). The insides still are reminiscing the construction period, which is why the rooms look less "lorldy" and have more of a 1950s charm. The owners, who are living ont he premises, have started renovationg the surrounding buildings.
