This abandoned farm is located in the Südharz region near the Kyffhäuser mountain range. It used to be a so-called "Edelhof" or "Freihaus". A Freihaus was a house that, although physically within the city walls of a medieval or early modern city, was legally outside it. That is, the residents of a Freihaus legally lived in the surrounding countryside and were outside the jurisdiction of the town court (they had the right to be tried before the regional court or Landgericht) and were exempt from municipal taxes. A freihaus was often awarded as a fief; rarely they were allodial property of their owner.
This particular farmyard has been for sale for more than a decade. The oldest part of the farm was built around 1777, another building was erected around 1900. The property is simply furnished, there is already significant moisture and damp damage and a strong need for renovation. Parts of the rrof have collapsed. The residential and administrative buildings and outbuildings are considered ready for demolition, according to the catalog from 2013. The minimum bid at the time was 1,000 Euros.
The buildings are empty. There are, however, a few relics of former residents to be found.
